Carrie is a graduate of Columbia University and has been in practice since 1968. While working at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center, Carrie created the first acute care cardiopulmonary clinical specialty area for physical therapy which led to her interest in developmental pediatrics. Carrie brought this background to the study of long term effects on babies from Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) to school age.
In 1982, she began consulting with the NJS Dept. of Human Services, Office of Education to construct treatment models for medically frail children to be able to attend school. At the same time, she continued her private practice in a variety of Northern NJ special education schools and settings, bringing her extensive knowledge of Neurodevelopmental Therapy (NDT) and Sensory Integration (SI) techniques into the classrooms.
In 1987, Carrie formally incorporated Rickard Rehabilitation Services, Inc., to serve the needs of children after school who would benefit from a more comprehensive therapeutic approach. RRS provides physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy services. Carrie and her dedicated staff serve students in the NY-NJ metropolitan area in schools and at the RRS clinic.
